President's update

18th November, 2013

It has been quite some time since I wrote a blog so I thought I should put ‘pen to paper’ as it were.

There are so many exciting and positive things going on at the moment; far too many to cover in a short blog but I hope you all out there feel that there is a sense of greater ‘positiveness’ in the town.

We have definitely seen an even greater upturn in interest in the Chamber which I think is more that reflected in the attendances at our general business meetings and B2B events.

Our last meeting at the North Lakes was particularly well attended. Not only was it entertaining but also very informative with QEGS giving us some musical entertainment during their presentation with regard to their 450th anniversary next year and the opportunity for business to ‘Sponsor a brick for their new classrooms’. Click here for more information.
Eden Tourism also gave us a talk on tourism in Eden (click here for information on how they can help tourism businesses) and the Business Rate department of EDC provided information on the application of Business rates in Penrith (click here for further information).

Our last B2B was also extremely interesting with a visit to Lakes Eggs at Stainton. It is truly an amazing business. It just showed what fantastic business we have in and around Penrith and it will be the Chambers intention to visit more of these next year.

If you haven’t been to one of our events please come along.
2014 will see more networking opportunities which I am sure you will find most interesting.

And of course we now have Christmas just around the corner.
The Chamber has been planning the Winter Festival since May and from what has been planned I know that it will be fantastic. As you may be aware the Winter Festival website is up and running and you can still lodge your event or activity on it. Go to www.penrithwinterfestival.co.uk.

Starting off with the Winter Droving event on 30th November, produced by Eden Arts there will be loads of activities going on in the town over the festive period. If you are one of those businesses who are participating may I thank you for your support.

I will sign off for now but before I do my thanks goes out to all those who support the Chamber in so many ways. And if you haven’t been involved up to now may I invite you to one of our forthcoming events:

Christmas Social – 17th December at the Lemon Tree, Devonshire Arcade from 5.30pm
General Business Meeting – 7th January 2014 (North Lakes Hotel from 6 until 7)
Annual General Meeting – 4th February 2014 (North Lakes Hotel from 6 until 7)

I look forward to seeing you, Richard Utting, President
