President's Blog - 3rd March 2015
3rd March, 2015
Well my marmalade entry didn’t win. I will just have to try harder next year! There was certainly a buzz around Penrith last weekend what with the Homes and Garden Show happening as well. See some comments right at the end of this blog. I was at the Marcus Bonfanti event at the Playhouse on Sunday night. Just shows what a rich diversity of entertainment venues we have in Penrith. It was great! Don’t forget my plea in the last blog-to send in to me things that you would like me to mention in this blog in the future. It could be a business idea, an event or just a pleasurable experience you had in the town.
I thought I’d update you on a couple of things:
- Don’t forget the Chamber’s general business meeting tonight at 6pm, North Lakes Hotel. Meet our new secretary Kate Cunningham (yes she has started now) and also, I’d like to outline some of the ways that I hope the Chamber will support you in 2015. I’d like to take on board your views too so the executive team can get it right. Plus there’s the usual opportunity to catch up with what’s what in Penrith that can impact on business and life in general over the coming weeks.
- Tomorrow I am being interviewed by ITV Border News on what businesses think politicians should do for them. It’s for a special ITV Border is doing for the election. I’d like to hear what you would want me to say!
- On Thursday March 5th, why not check out the Penrith Old Fire Station where there’s a music and words event with Joan Shelley from the USA and Simon Sylvester from Kendal. You may well get a surprise!
Back to good news stories from Penrith, Maureen Whitemore has sent me some feedback she has had about the Homes and Garden Show last weekend. Here are a few things that people have said:
“It was totally incredible, by bringing the best that Cumbria and the surrounding areas together we can do something very special and in the process help put Penrith on the map as a centre for excellence.
“We were all nearly overawed by the genteel & genuine nature of all the people we met during our weekend and that includes our hotel staff, taxi drivers, show people and general public…. Lovely people !
“Many congratulations for the fantastic event you were involved in at Rheged, we both thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon and should have gone earlier! You must have had a headache bringing all the artisans together, what a lot of local talent, well done to all involved.
“... well I think we can safely say that the show was a roaring success!!! Well done to all involved. Professionally put together, quality exhibitors and so well attended. You must be very thrilled.”
See you all tonight!
